Bailout Thought: As if Deadbeats Were Going to Pay a Government Mortgage

I can't see having the Government take over the mortgages of deadbeats being a good idea.

The Democrats will never let the Government foreclose on these people and kick them out of their (unpaid) houses. Really, in what way is having the Government be your lender going to get these people to pay when they are not paying now? If anything it would be another reason not to pay. If I did have a mortgage I certainly would want the Government to take it over so I could cry to them that I needed it slashed, and stop paying as proof of my need. Let's remember that many of the people who can't afford these mortgages any longer already took the cash out of their houses. They should be foreclosed on if they can't pay the money back!

There has to be a better way to get credit moving into the economy again. How about giving this $700 billion to those of us who acted responsible all this time and kept paying our bills. I don't own a house. How about giving me a sweetheart loan? How about giving me money to replace my old car? How about some vacation cash to reward my remaining solvent all this time? How about a little more cash for a flat screen TV and home entertainment system? How about a hundred thousand or two to increase my stock portfolio? I'm good for it!

P.S. One of the causes of this credit crisis, Casey Serin is back online. I would think that it is too late to help him with a bailout as he lost all six homes he bought. But what about all the other idiots who played the same game he did?
"Dyan Harmell bought 19 homes with 4-million dollars in mortgage debt. Pulte's in-house lender continued to sell her homes even as she showed a loss on her rental income . . . her sole income."

"'They had me close Monday, Wed, Friday on two houses each so it wouldn't show up on my credit report,' said Harmell." - Bubble Markets Inventory Tracking

People should go to jail. Good luck getting Democrats to admit that, especially with Democrat members of Congress getting sweetheart loans as payoff for not taking regulation seriously.

If Nancy Pelosi Believes What She Is Saying...

So, as part of a speech on what was going to be a bi-partisan effort to 'fix' the credit crisis, Nancy Pelosi once again spout out the BS she and her party have been pushing that the Democrats had absolutely no responsibility for causing the current crisis, instead placing 100% of the blame on President Bush and Republicans in General.
“$700 billion. A staggering number. But only a part of the cost of the failed Bush economic policies to our country. Policies that were built on budget recklessness, when President Bush took office, he inherited President Clinton’s surpluses four years in a row, budget surpluses. On a trajectory of $5.6 trillion in surplus. And with his reckless economic policies, within two years, he had turned that around. Now eight years later, the foundation of that fiscal irresponsibility, combined with an anything goes economic policy, has taken us to where we are today. They claim to be free market advocates when it’s really an anything goes mentality. No regulation, no supervision, no discipline. And if you fail, you will have a golden parachute and the taxpayer will bail you out. Those days are over. The party is over.” - Text posted at Townhall
Then there is this comment from earlier this month:
Pelosi (D-Calif.) ripped President Bush’s “mismanagement” of the economy and a lack of regulation that led to the current situation.

“I think the American people have had it with this situation where the middle-income people in our country are not protected from the ramifications of the risk-taking and the greed of these financial institutions,” Pelosi told MSNBC.

When asked whether the Democrats “deserve some responsibility” regarding the economic crisis, Pelosi responded: “No.” - The Hill
If she and her fellow Democrats really believe this, they she should submit a bill to the house requiring that lenders take into account the ability of a borrower to repay a loan as the single most important factor when evaluating a loan application. I am sure that she will have no problem finding enough Republicans to help her pass it. Hell, the Republicans should help her and submit this bill for her.

Blaming Republicans is just stupid. There is enough blame for both parties as well as for all the borrowers who stopped paying their mortgages. It was their responsibility to know whether they could afford to pay back a loan or not.

"Bad Social Engineering" Caused The Credit Crisis - Video

Absent all other influences, a stable society would only loan people and businesses only as much money as they can afford to pay back.

But for some reason Democrats have been trying to implement socialism in the US through 'back-door' gifts to the poor:

Video Link (Updated 30 Sept.)

Personally, I think the Republicans have their share of the blame, if for no other reason than keeping their mouths shut about this, to this day. They should beat the Democrats over the head with this, especially since the Democrats have taken to blaming Bush for it, even though the seeds of this crisis were sown well before his Presidency, by Democrats (Pelosi: Dems bear no responsibility for economic crisis).

In addition, banks share in the blame, other lenders, all the fools who bought these securities, providing more funding to keep the game going, and right down to the 'poor lenders' who claim to have been taken advantage of. They share as much guilt as the most-guilty Government officials since they were the idiots who signed these loans that they were never going to be able to pay back. It doesn't matter if they didn't know they couldn't pay the loans back, that was their responsibility to know this. (And if they were not bright enough to understand the paperwork, they should have gotten legal council. But they never did, because that costs money!)

Lonkero - Finnish Gin Long Drink - Recipe

Finland has a great drink that you really should try if you ever make it to that part of the world. No, not salmiakki kossu (That drink is disgusting) I am talking about Lonkero, the Finnish Gin Long Drink.
In Finland, the term "long drink" or lonkero (which also means "tentacle") refers exclusively to a mixed drink made from gin and, most commonly, grapefruit soda. Originally developed for the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, as of 2007 the Hartwall Original Gin Long Drink remains the most popular single product sold by Finnish state monopoly Alko, outselling even Koskenkorva, the most popular Finnish vodka. - Wikipedia
Since Lonkero is not available in the US, you will have to make your own.
- Two shots of gin
- Grapefruit soda (Can be found at Trader Joes)
- Top with a splash of tonic water (optional)

Pour into a glass full of ice.

Enjoy cold;)

The ingredients

One serving of gin (Note: I take two)

With grapefruit soda added

The drink ready to drink

I think I will need a double serving to get through tonight's Presidential debate. Friday night? WTF???

The Wedding Cannon

There is lots of talk about restricting the rights of gun ownership. Not only that, but sometimes wives need to give approval for a husband to purchase a handgun. So why not change things up by super-sizing your purchase goal by getting yourself a cannon.

What can you do with a cannon? What can't you do with a cannon! You can be the one with the 'biggest gun' on the block. You can rattle all the windows on your block. You can also learn the names of all the policemen in your neighborhood. You can hang out with Civil War reenactors.

You can also use your cannon to celebrate your wedding...

The wedding was a couple years back in Charleston, South Carolina. A crowd appeared at the gate of the reception hall after the first round went off wondering if the city was under attack. Boy were they pissed off the second time the cannon was fired. The police did not need to appear as a couple were already doing security for the wedding. And a great time was had by all.

Best thing is, chances are, you don't need a license to purchase a cannon.

The NRA's Biden Commercial Obama Does Not Want You to See

The National Rifle Association has come out with a couple of ads highlighting the Obama/Biden Campaign's anti-gun owner history. Here is the one targeting Senator Joe Biden's anti-gun record:

The Obama Campaign is feeling so threatened by these ads that they are actually threatening any TV station that agrees to aid one of their other ad's titled 'hunter'.
The Obama campaign has written radio stations in Pennsylvania and Ohio, pressing them to refuse to air an ad from the National Rifle Association.

"This advertisement knowingly misleads your viewing audience about Senator Obama's position on the Second Amendment," says the letter from Obama general counsel Bob Bauer. "For the sake of both FCC licensing requirements and the public interest, your station should refuse to continue to air this advertisement."

The ad, "Hunter," conflates Obama's anti-gun stances of the 1990s with his current, more pro-gun, stand, and was chided for inaccuracy in The Washington Post, an item to which Bauer's letter refers. - Politico
It is possible that they do not mention the other ads because they are not airing there or that they can't figure out a reason the ads should be pulled short of outright lying.

As it so happens, actions like this only further publicize the ads and it is his action to stifle the discussion that prompted me to post this ad, one that is probably not going to see much airtime anyway, but is definitely worth watching as Senator Biden, if elected, will surely back Obama's anti-gun efforts.

You can find all the videos on the NRA's website: GunBanObama
Barack Obama would be the most anti-gun president in American history. Senator Obama says “words matter.” But when it comes to your Second Amendment rights, he refuses to speak honestly about where he stands. In fact, Obama hides behind carefully chosen words and vague statements of support for sportsmen and gun rights to sidestep and camouflage the truth. - Link

Putin's Inconvenient Memorial

Remember Russia's fury over Estonia's decision that they no longer wanted to have a Soviet-placed statue as a reminder of Soviet oppression and occupation in the middle of their Capital and moved it without asking for Russian permission?

Well it seems that Official Russian outrage does not extend to the treatment of memorials at home.

Take the Russian monument commemorating the victims of the political oppression in the USSR located in Lubyanka Square in Moscow which is the location of the former KGB Headquarters. The memorial is also referred to as the Solovetsy Stone.

Memorial [Note: an NGO] had finally won permission to establish the monument it had first petitioned for in 1987: a large chunk of grey granite from the Solovetsky Islands in the White Sea, site of the first large-scale camps for political prisoners after the Bolshevik Revolution. The granite had been unloaded in the little park of spruces on one side of Dzerzhinsky Square, about equidistant from the statue of Iron Felix and the Lubyanka doors. The Politburo had approved the idea of a memorial to the "thousands" of victims of the repression "of the 1930's, 1940's and early 1950's." But the inscription on the granite, as thousands of people filed past and laid down their roses or carnations, quietly insisted on two facts: that the victims could not be counted in the thousands, and that the repression did not begin in the 1930's nor end in the 1950's. "To the Memory" the inscription read "of the millions of Victims of the Totalitarian Regime." - Dismantling Utopia by Scott Shane, Pages 143-144
Life expectancy in Russia is not as long as in western countries. That might help the Russian Government scrub away memories of abuse of Government power if nobody if left around to remind people of what living in Russia used to be like. This granite block seems to be the only sort of memorial in Moscow to the millions of victims of Soviet rule. Now, the Government is preparing to hide it away by putting it into storage.
Now, the authorities want to move the Stone, ostensibly to construct an underground power station for the metro. The Stone will be put in a place with restricted public access. Temporarily. Or so the authorities say. The very idea that the paranoid FSB would allow civilian underground construction so close to its headquarters already seems suspicious. And what is to keep this temporary construction project from becoming permanent, as so often happens in Russia? What if the authorities decide that they actually prefer the new inconvenient location of the Stone and don't return this eyesore and reminder of the excesses of the organs back to its rightful place in front of their headquarters? - (Read the story and Russian News of the controversy at Robert Amsterdam "Pardon Our Appearance: We're Building an Authoritarian State")
If the stone is taken away, it very well might be the last time it is ever seen, accidentally destroyed or lost while in storage. Now maybe if they actually get around to removing the statue, there will be a protest, but probably not to the extent as was seen in Estonia. First because many of the protesters in Estonia really just wanted to put down the Estonians and didn't actually care about the meaning of the statue itself, other than as a sign of Russia's once great power over others. And second, because they probably fear how Putin's Secret Police will respond against them.

It was Obama Who Failed to Vet his VP Pick

Immediately after John McCain announced his selection of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his pick for Vice President the press and Democrat pundits tried to push out the theory that John McCain made a sloppy, hasty choice, insisting that he must have failed to properly vet her prior to choosing her. Finally this idiotic theory has mostly gone by the wayside as she has demonstrated that she worked to rise to her position. And don't forget, that prior to being President, both Clinton and Bush were also Governors.

However, as this campaign goes forward, it is becoming very clear that Obama's pick of Joe Biden was not well vetted at all, at least not in any way that mattered. I am not talking about vetting him against any sort of 'October surprise' that he might expose the ticket to. But clearly they did little vetting concerning how he might be received by the voters. Not just the Democrat voters, any voters. There is no need for me to provide any examples of this folly. The news media, when they even both to cover his VP pick, highlight all sorts of problems this guy is causing with his mouth. Really, did they bounce his name off of any supporters? Were they afraid of hearing people say, 'why are you not picking Hillary?' or did they just happen to ask the three people in this country who are actually Biden supporters? As I noted before Joe Biden is Obama's John Kerry. He was supposedly picked to help with Pennsylvania voters and Christian voters in General. Whoever pushed that theory should be fired for being so stupid.

Not only that, but before this election is over, it will become abundantly clear to Democrats that they also failed to vet their pick of Barack Obama as their choice for President. After all, Biden was chosen to compensate for Obama's shortcomings. However, how is it possible that the Democrats, after spending well over $100 million in the primaries, managed to pick a top candidate with such shortcomings? And if Biden was so great, why is it that almost nobody voted for him during the short time he spent running for President?

There is talk of Obama replacing Joe Biden with a new VP pick. But if he can't do this one thing right, how can he be expected to run the country. How many times is he going to have to choose a Cabinet? Obama supporters should be careful about wishing for a new VP pick. He most likely would not pick Hillary the second time around, or she might not want the position any longer. At least he didn’t pick John Murtha the first time around. Democrats might not be so lucky if he gets to pick again.

'Gun Free' DC Awash in Illegal Guns

Handguns are for the most-part illegal in DC. Anti-gun city officials claim that they want to keep lawful residents from being allowed to have guns because the city is already awash in illegal weapons. this latest news story seems to confirm that claim:
D.C. gun seizures up in 2008: The Metropolitan Police Department has seized 200 more guns through mid-September this year than it did during the same period in 2007, despite the U.S. Supreme Court decision striking down the District’s handgun ban and pressure from Congress to lift gun ownership restrictions. It is unclear what types of firearms are being removed from the streets, but through Tuesday the MPD had recovered 1,856 guns — 117 in September alone. Between Jan. 1 and Sept. 19, 2007, police had recovered 1,634 firearms, only 100 in September. - DC Examiner
Of course, gun confiscations will not go up simply because DC's laws change to permit private ownership of handguns. Those gun owners are not the problem. After all, there is no other city in the US that has gun confiscation numbers like this, or has as high a crime rate and liberal gun ownership rules. (No, I did not do a study. this is just my opinion. Feel free to suggest a city with legal gun ownership and a worse crime problem in the comments if you can think of one.)

I am not sure what the jail time is for being convicted of having an illegal gun in DC, or using a gun in a crime in DC, but looking at these high numbers of how many guns they are collecting off the streets, clearly the jail time is not enough. Want the crime rate to go down in DC? Banning legal gun ownership is not the way to do it. Throwing criminals in jail and keeping them there is.

Failed policy - Rent 'Control', Causing Poverty?

There has been lots of news about Charlie Rangel and his about of subsidized housing, among other things. But there is a bigger issue here being subsidized housing itself.

Take this comment from Obama Campaign Manager David Plouffe:
Community organizing is how ordinary people respond to out-of-touch politicians and their failed policies. - National Review
How is it that for some reason many failed policies tend to be in areas of the country controlled by Democrat politicians?

Take Rent control and rent stabilization. The idea is to protect the poor with low cost housing. However, the way the system works, as in New York City, rent control apartments are currently only held by elderly people. That sounds good right? Well many of these people have children who (rightly so) also live with their parents/relatives to take advantage of the low cost housing.

Rent Control, New York:
To qualify for rent control, a tenant must have been living continuously in an apartment since July 1, 1971. When vacant, the unit becomes rent stabilized, except in buildings with less than six units, where it is usually removed from the program. In some cases a tenant living in a one or two family home may qualify for rent control if the tenant has lived there since 1953 , however once the apartment or home has been vacated the home or apartment (if in a 2 family) is deregulated. - Wikipedia
Rent Stabilization, New York:
Tenants living in buildings built between February 1, 1947 and January 1, 1974, or who moved into a pre-1947 building after 1971, or who moved into certain post-1974 buildings that received tax breaks, qualify for rent stabilization if the other financial terms are met, and the tenant moved into the unit before July 7, 1993. As part of city managed programs Some buildings become temporarily rent stabilized in return for a temporary reduction in real estate taxes when those buildings have been converted to residential use from another use group (i.e. commercial or industrial). Two of those programs, J-51 for renovated buildings, and 421-a for new construction grant temporary rent stabilization to tenants of apartments in those building, overriding other qualifications. - Wikipedia
Do you see the problem here? In an attempt to 'help' these people they have turned them into rent slaves, trapped to live in specific homes, and as it happens, in specific congressional districts. And this is a big problem because over time businesses move, bringing and taking jobs with them. One reason that businesses move is because the price of real estate increases. I bet there was a lot more manufacturing done in Manhattan in the '60s and '70s than now. The jobs over time moving to cheaper locations in the other bureaus or to the suburbs, if not further afield. These jobs that low income families depended on were replaced with much higher-paying jobs, which they were not qualified for due to a lack of education and experience. Worse, the low-cost housing distorts their impression of the actual cost of housing. While they can find jobs that pay much more by moving to where the jobs are, the increase in salary fails to encourage a move because the greater increase in rent appears unjust since the new rent is no longer subsidized or they are not able to find an available rent stabilized apartment near the new job.

One solution that has popped up on the left to solve this problem is to export subsidized rent. That is a real bad idea:
As Program Moves Poor to Suburbs, Tensions Follow
By SOLOMON MOORE
ANTIOCH, Calif. — From the tough streets of Oakland, where so many of Alice Payne’s relatives and friends had been shot to death, the newspaper advertisement for a federally assisted rental property in this Northern California suburb was like a bridge across the River Jordan.

Ms. Payne, a 42-year-old African-American mother of five, moved to Antioch in 2006. With the local real estate market slowing and a housing voucher covering two-thirds of the rent, she found she could afford a large, new home, with a pool, for $2,200 a month.

But old problems persisted. When her estranged husband was arrested, the local housing authority tried to cut off her subsidy, citing disturbances at her house. Then the police threatened to prosecute her landlord for any criminal activity or public nuisances caused by the family. The landlord forced the Paynes to leave when their lease was up.

Under the Section 8 federal housing voucher program, thousands of poor, urban and often African-American residents have left hardscrabble neighborhoods in the nation’s largest cities and resettled in the suburbs.

Law enforcement experts and housing researchers argue that rising crime rates follow Section 8 recipients to their new homes, while other experts discount any direct link. - (Found at JustOneMinute)
The problem noted above is partly due to the fact that those benefiting from the program don't pay the true cost for their housing. In the example above, the renter was only paying thirty percent of the cost of her housing. Then there is all sorts of outright fraud. By people who conceal their actual income. By people who assume residence of their parent's rent controlled apartments as they leave. Even politicians have been caught abusing the system.
While aggressive evictions are reducing the number of rent-stabilized apartments in New York, Representative Charles B. Rangel is enjoying four of them, including three adjacent units on the 16th floor overlooking Upper Manhattan in a building owned by one of New York’s premier real estate developers.

Mr. Rangel, the powerful Democrat who is chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, uses his fourth apartment, six floors below, as a campaign office, despite state and city regulations that require rent-stabilized apartments to be used as a primary residence.

Mr. Rangel, who has a net worth of $566,000 to $1.2 million, according to Congressional disclosure records, paid a total rent of $3,894 monthly in 2007 for the four apartments at Lenox Terrace, a 1,700-unit luxury development of six towers, with doormen, that is described in real estate publications as Harlem’s most prestigious address.

The current market-rate rent for similar apartments in Mr. Rangel’s building would total $7,465 to $8,125 a month, according to the Web site of the owner, the Olnick Organization. - New York Times
And it gets worse:
Rangel owned a villa in Punta Cana, and didn't always declare the income from the renting of the property. That violates federal laws: [see his post for relevant news extract]

Rangel loves to live the high life, and claim that he's for the common man. Too bad he doesn't follow the law like the common man.

The property was rented over the past two years, and yet Rangel didn't declare income for either 2006 or 2007. That's quite curious. The resort claims that the property was utilized - meaning it was rented with rents ranging from $500 to $1100 per night depending on the season - and yet Rangel doesn't claim income from the rents? More to the point, Rangel says that this is a private matter? - A Blog For All
Now poverty is a real problem in America. However the current actions to reduce poverty do not address one of the contributing factors, that is a lack of mobility of the workforce of the poor. Rent subsidy, at least in its current form, is a contributing factor in this lack of their mobility. This is a serious issue. Much of the population of this country has to relocate to where the jobs are. For some reason, one section of the population has not been encouraged to chase work other than what they can find locally. They are told by their leaders/community organizers that their situation is not their fault, in effect discouraging them from trying to solve the problem themselves. Instead being given all sorts of aid, which instead of helping them better themselves, makes them dependent on it and those who promise them more, trading this aid for their electoral support.

John McCain 'undermines autoworkers' by Buying 11 US-Made Cars

Here is your latest fake anti-McCain 'scandal'
In a quickly-arranged conference call organized by the Democratic National Committee, United Auto Worker Union President Ron Gettelfinger — an Obama supporter — said the registration records show McCain is not being truthful with Americans and undermining autoworkers. - CNN
Just how is he undermining US autoworkers? Seems that out of the 13 cars the McCains own, two of them are foreign-made.
(CNN) — Democrats eager to portray John McCain as out of touch with average Americans and as a flip-flopper seized on a report Sunday the Arizona senator and his wife, Cindy, own more than a dozen cars — including several foreign-made automobiles.

A Newsweek article published on the magazine's Web Site Sunday said registration records show the McCains currently own 13 cars — two of which are foreign-made: a Honda and a Volkswagen. - CNN
So Mr. McCain gets a big FU from the United Auto Worker Union President Ron Gettelfinger for buying eleven US-Made automobiles. Not mentioned is why Senator Obama offended the other two traditional US Automakers by buying a Ford.

P.S. And a big FU to the rest of America who has ever bought a high-quality, well-made, foreign-built car. Since I am at it, just why has Ford never bothered to build Volvos in the US? They bought the company. Mass-producing Volvos in the US would have created lots of jobs here and provide Ford with a very popular model that would most likely be in high demand.

My Dad's Opinion of Sarah Palin

My dad is a true Red White and Blue Conservative Republican (and very ex long ago Democrat). when I hear of John McCain's pick for Vice President I like it but I did want to get my dad's opinion. His initial opinion was very positive. I just saw him this weekend and asked him how he felt now about the McCain/Palin ticket:
She is the type of woman that all real men like. She is independent, smart, knowledgeable, a leader and a hunter. What is there not to like about Sarah Palin?

She wears her balls on her chest.
There you go. He then went on to explain that the 'balls' comment was in relation to many of the Republicans in Congress who seem to have no balls for fighting the Democrats on earmarks, corruption, drilling (Think party of 10/20). Well basically much of anything. Well, there are a couple pro-porkbusters Congressmen out there but they are the exception. However, as a group they are a big disappointment.

As it so happens, my mom also likes her and is impressed that she managed to accomplish all that she has while raising four children with a recent fifth addition. She should know because she took on raising four children as a full-time job.
