UN Elects Iranian to Chair Commission to Advance Full Employment and Decent Work for Women

This is a perfect example of why the UN has become a complete joke.

The UN has just elected an Iranian Ambassador, Mehdi Danesh-Yazdi, to Chair the Commission for Social Development, which has as its theme:

"Promoting full employment and decent work for all"

Now ALL should include children, old people, the disabled, and women.

This is what makes the choice of an Iranian to lead this mission a complete joke as Iran has not signed up to the The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). (Saudi Arabia has signed the Convention, but when they did they exempted themselves from doing anything to eliminate discrimination as doing so would be against Islam.)

You cannot have full employment for women as long as you continue to discriminate against them. As far as Iran and other Islamic countries are concerned (including those that have signed CEDAW) they often claim that they are in favor of whatever the goal is, with the exception of goals that are in conflict with Islam, just like Saudi Arabia does. So, why would they not use the same excuse here?

Keep in mind that it is not the Iranian who made himself chairman, it was the other members of the Commission who voted him into power. So what the hell were they thinking when they did this? The US is on this Commission. Was this some idiotic gesture to stick it to the US?

And don't kid yourself into thinking that this is just 'some poor diplomat' who has the unfortunate luck to be serving the mullahs in Tehran. This guy is:
- Iran's pointman of Iran's secret Nuclear Program.
- Drumbeater at the UN about Israel's 'crimes' in the Middle East.
- Diplomatic Arm for Iran's' Terrorists in Iraq.
At the end of the day, this is nothing to get pissed over. After all, it really does not matter who they put in charge, nothing was going to get accomplished anyway, other than spending money.
