Now that we are all Proud of Our Country...

Whatever the reason, it is great to hear that so many people are joining the rest of us in being proud of Our Country.

And now that we are all proud of Our Country, surely we will all want to make Our Country a better place to live. So, there are a couple things our newest flag-wavers can help with:
This is by no means a complete list, but it is a good start to work with if you want to see the parts of the country that need the most help get better to improve life for those who live there. The Incoming President alone is not going to make this country any better. It is up to the citizens of the US to make this country great, not just up to our leader.

As for the rest of us, lets hope that they don't all turn out to be 'fairweather' Patriots. I am not sure what we can do to prevent that. (Other than always giving them what they want, which is not going to happen)

Thank You President Bush

It has to be one of world's hardest jobs. No matter who has the job and how well they do it, there will always be criticism and second-guessing of whatever the President of the United States does, even the popular ones.

President Bush has taken an eight year assault from enemies both foreign and domestic as well as from liberals who used whatever facts, regardless of accuracy or truthfulness, to slander the President and belittle the position of President. Many have behaved in ways that brought discredit upon themselves, and the United States. In some respects, they have damaged America's standing in the world more so than anything the President might have done. Much of the time, the President has simply ignored the criticisms and slander and concentrated on the job at hand.

President Bush has overseen many good things that this Country has done during his term. Do I have complaints about how the last eight years? Of course. But his term is all over now, so I would like to simple say Thank You President Bush! (And Thank You Vice President Dick Cheney too!)

Presidents Washington and Bush.

P.S.
Mr. Cheney, see you around the neighborhood, neighbor.

President Barack Obama - America's Neville Chamberlain?

We all know at least a little bit about Nevile Chamberlain. He is the one who secured peace with Nazi Germany by coming to an agreement with Adolf Hitler and upon his return to the UK, declaring that the agreement he reached would result in 'Peace in our time'. Well we all know how wrong this guy was with his agreement helping to pave the way to WWII. Here is a little more about Mr. Chamberlain's thought process in all of this:
William Strang, who was to play an important role in Allied negotiations with Moskow in 1939 and who eventually became Permanent Under-Secretary at the Foreign Office, later wrote: 'It can fairly be said of Neville Chamberlain that he was not well versed in foreign affairs, that he had no touch for a diplomatic situation, that he did not fully realise what it was he was doing, and that his naive confidence in his own judgement and power of persuasion and achievement was misplaced.' Strang summed up Chamberlain's approach to the subject coolly and without rancour, despite the frustration, and even desperation, which he must have felt at the time, but which he concealed like the dedicated civil servant he was. 'His mind was dominated,' Strang said, 'by two thoughts. The first was hatred of war so deep that he would think that heavy sacrifices would be justified in order to avoid it. The second was the belief that the German and Italian dictators were men whose word could be relied on; that it was possible to come to agreements with them which could transform the international situation for the better and give peace in Europe; and by that by his personal influence with them he could hope to bring such agreements about.' - The Deadly Embrace: Hitler, Stalin, and the Nazi-Soviet Pact 1939-1941, By Anthony Read, David Fisher, Pages 24-25
In short, this guy ended up being one of Hitler's most 'Useful Idiot's. (Although there were many more who help simply by doing nothing to prevent Hitler's march to war.)

Neville Chamberlain holding the paper containing the resolution to commit to peaceful methods signed by both Hitler and himself on his return from Munich. He is showing the piece of paper to a crowd at Heston Aerodrome on 30 September 1938. He said:

"...the settlement of the Czechoslovakian problem, which has now been achieved is, in my view, only the prelude to a larger settlement in which all Europe may find peace. This morning I had another talk with the German Chancellor, Herr Hitler, and here is the paper which bears his name upon it as well as mine (waves paper to the crowd - receiving loud cheers and "Hear Hears"). Some of you, perhaps, have already heard what it contains but I would just like to read it to you ...".

Later that day he stood outside Number 10 Downing Street and again read from the document and concluded:

'"My good friends, for the second time in our history, a British Prime Minister has returned from Germany bringing peace with honour. I believe it is peace for our time."

-------------
Now replace Nazi Germany with Iran and Neville Chamberlain with Barack Obama. At its most general level we have a very similar situation. Iran is acting like the party with problems that need to be addressed, and we have an incoming President who thinks that he is better able to solve the problems using his personal influence. (At least his supports believe as much!)

At least the Iranian's are not exactly paving the route with rose petals. They are already burning him in effigy. This at least confirms what I have said here before, that the people who hate the US now, did so well before Bush became President and will continue to do so no matter who is President. It is what holds their countries together and controls their populations. Just like hatred of Jews rallied Nazi Germany, hatred of Israel rallies various populations in the Middle East, and hatred of the US rallies all sorts of groups around the globe.

Lets hope that our new President is smart enough not to feed those fires. Unfortunately, his promises to negotiate unconditionally with these Governments will be just like throwing gasoline on a fire!

Up-Close at the National Air and Space Museum

Here are some close-up photos that I took early this winter at the new annex to the National Air and Space Museum. I have been there a couple time before so figured that I would try to hunt out some of the little details in such a large building. So here you go:

Simply Put, Timothy Geithner is a Tax Cheat

OK, I can understand how it is possible to make mistakes in your taxes or even fudge a bit to underpay your taxes, but this guy, even when caught, still failed to pay up until he was offered a great job with the Obama Administration. Hell, the guy was audited and caught and still didn't pay the full amount due:
Mr. Geithner didn't make any Social Security or Medicare tax payments on his income during the years he worked for the IMF, though he did pay income taxes. After the Internal Revenue Service audited him in 2006 and discovered the payroll-tax errors, Mr. Geithner corrected them for 2003 and 2004. Only after Mr. Obama picked him for Treasury secretary last fall did Mr. Geithner pay the Social Security and Medicare tax he owed for 2001 and 2002. - Wall Street Journal
He did this same job for a number of years. Had half his time at this job audited. Was caught for failure to pay his Social Security and Medicare taxes for that period. He had to pay at that point for those two years, but didn't bother to pay up for the years he was not caught despite having to know that he made the same 'mistake' for those un-audited years as well.

Worse, he was repeatedly told that he had to pay these taxes by his employer and was even paid compensation for the money he should have paid:
"The IMF informs U.S. employees about their tax allowance and what it covers and doesn't cover -- and that includes paying your payroll taxes," said Michael Mussa, a former IMF chief economist, who is now at the Peterson Institute for International Economics. "The IMF doesn't leave this out."

An IMF booklet on taxes, which Mr. Geithner told the Senate panel he received, instructed employees that "you pay the employee's share of U.S. Social Security taxes."

Mr. Geithner's quarterly tax-allowance payments also included a statement of what the money was to be used for, and had an entry for "SE tax" -- meaning "self-employment" taxes. In a wrinkle in U.S. tax law, U.S. citizens at the IMF pay Social Security and Medicare taxes as if they were self-employed. Current and former IMF officials said that U.S. officials widely understood "SE tax" to mean payroll taxes.

Mr. Geithner "filled out, signed and submitted an annual tax allowance request worksheet with the IMF that states, 'I wish to apply for tax allowance of U.S. federal and state income taxes and the difference between the "self-employed" and "employed" obligation of the U.S. Social Security tax which I will pay on my Fund income,'" the Finance Committee reported. - Wall Street Journal
It is ridiculous to accept his excuse that he just made a mistake. AT BEST he made many mistakes in this matter. But for a person to be reminded of what he needed to do and receive money for the purpose of making these payments makes him a tax cheat. Even if this is all one big misunderstanding, he still should not be confirmed simply because this does not look like a simple misunderstanding. Its looks like he acted in his own best interest and for that reason alone, should not be rewarded with this Government position.

By keeping his tax payments he stole from the US Treasury. And now Congress wants to put him in charge of it. This would be the same as a bank hiring a former bank robber.
--------------------
P.S. If Congress decides that this is no big deal, then in all fairness all Americans should not get Social Security and Medicare automatically deducted from our paychecks. And, if we happen to forget to pay voluntarily, we should be given the same opportunity he received in being able to pay what we owe with no penalties, if we get caught. At least the IRS will stimulate the employment numbers because they won't be able to hire enough auditors to catch us all....
