US Government Buying Chinese Condoms is Not The Problem

So here is the latest outrage with the US Government's USAID Organization switching from a US to Chinese supplier for condoms.
About 300 Alabamians may lose their jobs because the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will now purchase cheaper condoms from China and South Korea instead of from Alatech in Eufala, Alabama, according to The Kansas City Star. USAID gives billions of condoms to other countries but, up until now, has exclusively distributed American condoms.

The Star reports that a USAID official said they knew the move would cost Americans jobs, but the imported condoms only cost about 2 cents each compared to the Alabama versions which run about 5 cents - Examiner.com
The outrage of course is that the US Government is outsourcing manufacturing of condoms overseas, which most likely directly result in the loss of American Jobs.

I think the outrage is misplaced. The outrage should not be over WHERE THE CONDOMS ARE PURCHASED FROM but over the simple fact that THE US GOVERNMENT IS BUYING CONDOMS TO GIVE AWAY OVERSEAS.

Really, if it is so important to buy condoms to hand out to citizens of other countries, then maybe those countries should buy the condoms themselves. Surely, they can spend the 2-5 cents for the damn things, especially since you can bet that they are also getting millions in aid money. And if they decline to buy them, instead using the money for what they think are more important things, so be it. People can just buy condoms for themselves instead. And if they don't care to protect themselves, then that is their decision. Not for anything, but as I mentioned before here, if they don't care enough to buy them themselves, what makes you think that they will properly use them.....

Obama: Sending Jobs Overseas Bad - Illegals Takings Jobs Here Just Fine

Here is another area where President Obama and his Administration are having it both ways, and so far nobody has really called them on it.

In this case, the President has been hammering US Corporations for sending some work overseas, blaming this 'outsourcing' for lost American jobs. These Corporations have been vilified by the President specifically and Democrats in general.

This same President however fails to see that the end result is the same if they go and let these corporations go and hire illegal aliens to do the work. Sure the job is still here, but instead of sending the work overseas, they brought the foreign worker here to do the job. Illegal aliens are outsourced labor. Instead of sending the work to them, they came to the work.

At least when American Companies have work done in factories overseas, you can expect that each foreigner employed is one less person looking to come to America illegally. So if a company is outsourcing jobs to Mexico, each Mexican that takes one of those jobs is one less Mexican trying to get to the US. But when a Mexican in the US illegally takes a job in the US, the end result is the same, in that there is one less job available to an American. Not only that, but his 'success' is noted back at home, only encouraging more people to come illegally in search of work.

By letting Illegal Aliens work in the US, they are now competing for jobs that are very difficult if not impossible to send overseas. Think construction and landscaping as two of those industries where the work pretty much needs to be done here. Not to mention all the work done in the agriculture and food industry.

This is where frequent raids were effective, in that illegal aliens never knew when or where Government ICE Agents would strike next. But now, our President seems to have second thoughts about collecting illegal aliens and sending them back home.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has delayed a series of proposed immigration raids and other enforcement actions at U.S. workplaces in recent weeks, asking agents in her department to apply more scrutiny to the selection and investigation of targets as well as the timing of raids, federal officials said.

A senior department official said the delays signal a pending change in whom agents at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement choose to prosecute -- increasing the focus on businesses and executives instead of ordinary workers.

"ICE is now scrutinizing these cases more thoroughly to ensure that [targets] are being taken down when they should be taken down, and that the employer is being targeted and the surveillance and the investigation is being done how it should be done," said the official, discussing Napolitano's views about sensitive law enforcement matters on the condition of anonymity.

"There will be a change in policy, but in the interim, you've got to scrutinize the cases coming up," the senior DHS official said, noting Napolitano's expectations as a former federal prosecutor and state attorney general. - Washington Post

This makes no sense. When a factory is raided, it is only the Illegal Aliens and Company management that have anything to fear. And in some of those cases it was management that actively assisted the Government properly document those who do not have the right to work in the US and were even told to let them continue work until they could be collected in a raid. what is the point in now targeting them? (Other than to stop them from telling the Government that they discovered Illegals working at their company)

Corporations that outsource work overseas have been made out to be evil despite economic studies reporting that these corporations ultimately result in more money and work being returned to the US in the long run. Oddly enough, the new Government is completely unwilling to recognize that Illegal aliens taking jobs inside the US is just as 'evil' if not worse since those taking the work are breaking the law because they have no right to work in the US.

Democrats has defended the taking of jobs by illegal aliens by claiming that illegal aliens are only taking jobs that Americans are not willing to do. I have pointed out in the past that there is no such thing as a job that Americans are unwilling to do (and the show DIRTY JOBS provides proof of that weekly). Recent news of a janitor job receiving 700+ applications is more such proof that Americans can be pretty flexible when it comes to taking most any job (That job by the way was in Ohio which is basically the wrong place to be if your looking for work. Which touches on another point, people out of work need to consider moving to where the jobs are.) Anyway, if there is such a thing as jobs Americans are not willing to do, then it is possible that the jobs being exported by American companies are those jobs that Americans are unwilling to do. If Democrats want to use that excuse in defense of Illegal Aliens taking jobs inside the US, then corporations can equally use that excuse to ship jobs out of the country...

P.S.
The story has the Government trying to play this off as some sort of compassionate move on behalf of the Administration:
Also last week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus made similar calls as the caucus met formally with Obama for the first time.

"Raids that break up families in that way, just kick in the door in the middle of the night, taking [a] father, a parent away, that's just not the American way. It must stop," Pelosi added at a Capitol Hill conference on border issues sponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. - Washington Post
This is just utter B.S. First, I would think that the only cases where ICE is busting into houses in the middle of the night is in cases involving Illegal Alien criminals and in those cases the same happens to American families and rightfully so. And not for anything, there is nothing keeping the rest of a family of a detained Illegal Alien from being deported all together. The 'tearing the family apart' problem is only an issue because the rest of the family stays in the US hoping for a quick return of their deported family member. So perhaps the entire families of those captured in work raids should be rounded up as well. This way, by sending the entire family home, it is one less reason for those deported to try and come back. and by capturing one member of the household, they have captured a resource permitting them to capture the other members as well.

Earth Hour - Total B.S.

I first heard of 'Earth Hour' while I was on vacation in Finland:
VOTE EARTH - YOUR LIGHT SWITCH IS YOUR VOTE

This year, Earth Hour has been transformed into the world’s first global election, between Earth and global warming.

For the first time in history, people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity to use their light switch as their vote – Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming. WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009.

This meeting will determine official government policies to take action against global warming, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol. It is the chance for the people of the world to make their voice heard.

Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.

In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote. Unlike any election in history, it is not about what country you’re from, but instead, what planet you’re from. VOTE EARTH is a global call to action for every individual, every business, and every community. A call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet. Over 74 countries and territories have pledged their support to VOTE EARTH during Earth Hour 2009, and this number is growing everyday.

We all have a vote, and every single vote counts. Together we can take control of the future of our planet, for future generations.

VOTE EARTH by simply switching off your lights for one hour, and join the world for Earth Hour. - Link
What total BS. We are all adults right. so lets stop with the trivial middle school crap. You want to sit in the dark for an hour go right ahead. While your at it, how about doing this right and turning off your TV and computer during that hour. If you think that your actually doing the planet any good for turning your lights off for an hour, then you're killing the planet again the minute you turn those lights back on. Did you light a candle during that hour? what the hell do you think a burning flame does to the planet?

Not for anything, but there are two issues here:
1. Is the planet warming or not?
2. Are humans contributing to 'Climate Change' in a substantial way or is it mostly natural?
People are automatically linking the two issues and making very careless and potentially expensive decisions. Expensive decisions for others. So why don't you go off any live your 'green' way and I'll live my way. and it ten years down the road we are all up to our knees in water, you'll know who to blame. I for one doubt that is going to happen and with that, think that most of the changes in lifestyle that are being demanded are a complete waste of time, energy and money.

Released GITMO Detainees Should Go Back To Their Own Country - To be Tortured or Not

Ah, the problem of what to do with GITMO detainees that the US does not want to hold anymore:
Some of the detainees, deemed non-threatening, may be released into the United States as free men, Blair confirmed.

That would happen when they can't be returned to their home countries, because the governments either won't take them or the U.S. fears they will be abused or tortured. That is the case with 17 Uighurs (WEE'-gurz), Chinese Muslim separatists who were cleared for release from the jail long ago. The U.S. can't find a country willing to take them, and it will not turn them over to China. - AP (Found via the Weekly Standard)
The last time I checked, China is a Full Member of the United Nations right up to holding a permanent Seat on the UN's Security Council. What happens to the Chinese Uighurs upon their return to China by the US is not our problem. If the Chinese decide to torture the hell out of them, then they would surely be in violation of their commitments to the UN. The issue should be taken up there if the Uighurs end up being mistreated upon their return. Sure it sucks to be them, but if China is really a problem, then they should be confronted about this at the UN. That is why it exists.

Really, not sending them back is not going to stop torture in China. Sending them back will force the world to confront them on this issue. Or maybe not. Maybe these guys get executed on their return and the world moves on. At least we won't have these suspected terrorists living amongst us, collecting welfare. Keep in mind that it was their actions that got them where they are now.

Update: Marion Barry Should Die in Jail

Back in February I wrote about the latest lawbreaking by DC Councilman/Former Mayor/Former drug criminal/Current tax cheat. (See: Marion Barry Should Die in Jail)

Now comes word of just how much Marion Barry owes in taxes:
According to an affidavit filed yesterday by an IRS special agent, Barry owes $277,688.05 to the U.S. Treasury in back taxes, interest and penalties. The IRS agent did not break down the total any further. But the agent said Barry's 2007 return indicates that he owes the federal government $6,512 in taxes for that year. The IRS is taking $1,350 every two weeks from Barry's paycheck, the agent wrote. - Washington Post
Just how did he manage to not pay his taxes at the time he earned them? I would think that his Government paycheck would have the deductions the rest of us have or did he claim so many deductions that little or nothing got taken out. Worse, he now owes so much that it is going to be very difficult for the Government to get it all back. It will be even harder if he is booted from his Government position which is what would happen most everywhere else in the country. But he Represents the residents of Washington, DC which see him as some sort of hero. Which in itself partly explains why DC has so many problems.

Marion Barry is an unrepentant tax cheat. He owes so much money that it is unlikely that he will ever pay it up. He surely is hoping to delay the day of reckoning back far enough to escape justice by natural death. As I wrote before:
Not for anything, but this guy should finally be made an example of. All he does is waste our time and damages the potential of inner city DC children who learn that this is the type of person who they should look up to as a hero. That is just messed up.

Jailing Marion Barry will do more good for Washington, DC than billions of dollars in stimulus!

If they decide against sending him to jail, he should run for Congress, or apply for a position in Obama's Cabinet. Looking at the clowns we currently have serving, this guy is qualified enough for two positions!

What about the Others who got Government Money?

Actually, in a little way, it is good to see the Government interested in how others spend the money they give out. Too bad they are only concerned about AIG.

But since they have shown such an interest, maybe now they can be pushed to look into how other Government money is spent. And with that, take a nice hard look at how other assistance money is used by recipients.

No, I am not talking about banks and Wall Street. I am talking about non-profits that are receiving Government funding as well as those who are receiving Unemployment, Welfare, Foodstamps, Disability, free Medical Care and other Government assistance. After all, if we are going to complain about how AIG manages their Government handouts, it is only fair to look at how others spend their handouts.

Take for instance ACORN:
- ACORN gets Government funding.
- ACORN uses Government funding to Lobby Congress.
- ACORN gets more Government funding.
And this is an organization with an ongoing problem of massive fraud. And still they get more. The President gave them $800,000 of his campaign funds and now they are going to assist with the next Government Census.

This however is nothing compared to how money is flowing through those on public assistance.

Take the poor:
- The Poor get Government assistance in the form of Unemployment, welfare, Food Stamps, etc.
- The Poor donate to politicians.
- The Politicians arrange to give more money to the poor.
I find the thought of people on public assistance donating money to politicians much worse of an abuse of Government funds than the very public berating that AIG is getting for it's use of Government money as in this case those responsible for overseeing the distribution of the money are benefiting directly from it. Where if the poor did not get Government handouts, the politicians would not get as many campaign donations. Really, this is as if the poor were giving bonuses to the politicians they were donating money to. And remember all those $5 donations now-President Obama was receiving during the campaign. How much of that money started out as taxpayer funds given out with the goal of helping people in need?

Of course, there is the general problem of people on Government assistance wasting their handouts on things like alcohol, tobacco, expensive clothes, vacations, etc... This of course goes to the core issue of why these people remain poor. So why don't the politicians apply their new AIG Standard to others? The answer to that is simple. They really don't want to help these people better themselves. Because if they do, these politicians might lose their votes!

IF Government money given to Corporations in trouble is going to have strict conditions on how it can be used, then so should Government money given to the poor. I am sure it does have some conditions, but I am also sure that there is no checking and enforcement of whether people are complying. And as for conditions on the money, one should be a ban on making political donations!

AIG Bonus - Presidential/Democrat Stupidity

This AIG outrage is getting a little old. Lets look at the basic facts:

- AIG made stupid decisions which resulted in losing a huge amount of money.
- The Government gives AIG a huge amount of money
- AIG makes more stupid decisions (say some) which resulted in losing more money.

Did they honestly think that AIG was going to get lots smarter simply because they were all of a sudden spending other people's money?

As some really dense Democrat Congressmen said recently 'It looks like we are rewarding incompetency.' Well, the bonuses were not the reward for incompetency. The Government bailout of the company was the reward. (And as far as I am concerned, the employees should be able to keep the bonuses. The company used the money as it thought it needed to. As I just said, the bonuses were not the mistake. Giving the money to the company was.)

In a fair world this company would have failed. That would have rewarded the other companies that did not much such bad mistakes. Now these stronger companies have to put up with this subsidized competitor which threatens to now weaken the their position in the market.

Back From Vacation

For those (two of you) wondering why there has been no posting lately, it is because I had taken the family on vacation to Finland for two weeks. We are now back, but now I have two kids who think that 0430 is when they should be getting up. So posting might still be a little light for the next couple days until we all get settled in.

Thanks for stopping by. I have lots I want to write about. It seems that the Obama Administration is going to provide no end of material to write about!

Symbolic Move from US in Protest of President Obama

In protest of President Obama's actions to bankrupt the US, I have moved to Finland, at least until the end of March when I move back to continue fighting our President's insane spending on the behalf of deadbeats and political favorites.

Unfortunately, I picked this last Monday to fly out so this turned into a little bit of an 'Escape from New York' as the state, and airports, were buried in a huge amount of snow. But thanks to lots of snow removal on behalf of the local governments and thanks to Finnair for sending the plane from Helsinki to fetch us. Many flights were canceled but our flight left just a little late. We left an hour earlier to get to the airport and despite going slower because of the snow, we made up time as there was no traffic at all on the way there.

As for my trip being part of a protest against President Obama, don't take this as an empty protest as we are looking to buy a machine shop in Finland. Sure we can buy one in the US, but at least it is easy to figure out how badly we are going to be screwed as business owners in Finland unlike in the US where who knows how badly owners there are going to get screwed. So I will take my business here, provided I find something worth buying and suitable for the plans that I have in growing such a business.

Also, I have spent more time out of the country than many of those moonbats who promised to move out of the US if Bush got re-elected in 2004 and then reneged on that promise.
